Decorative Concrete Overlay

As the years go by, a homeowner's property starts to show wear and tear.  No matter if it is the driveway, patio, or walkway, the elements of the weather out there eventually do a job on these areas.  No matter if it is in the north with the harsh winters or in the south with the excessive heat.  So what is a homeowner to do?  Either start over from scratch or use a great product called decorative concrete overlay.  After all, the home is one of the most important purchases that people will ever make and it is essential to make the right choice when it comes to home remodeling.

Basically what is happening here is that area of deterioration is getting a much needed face-lift of the concrete nature.  This is a much cheaper procedure than the alternative of removal of the old concrete and the replacement after that.  This great idea can be used for the following areas:

So exactly what is decorative overlay?  It is a cement based overlay that contains blended polymer resins with sand, cement, and other additives that will improve the durability and appearance of the area.  When applied to the area of interest, the diameter of the overlay applied can as little as 2mm to as high as 5cm.  What happens upon application is that the substance will bond to the existing concrete and provide many great benefits of protection.  Things such as preventing damage from UV exposure, a wide variety of chemicals, salt, and scuffing.  Homeowners especially love to use this product for the pool deck because it keeps it cool and make walking on it without shoes a pleasure. 

So as you can see, using decorative overlay can work in many situations.  However, if the preexisting concrete has severe cracks in it or the area is not stable, resurfacing most like will not be the choice to go with.  That is when you will have to rip out the old concrete and replace with new.
